When we take a flight, we try to ensure that we have everything with us as we exit the plane. We don’t want to leave anything behind, but a Missouri man made the unfortunate mistake of leaving his wallet.

He was flying across the country on American Airlines when he misplaced his wallet. He contacted American Airlines about the issue, and they said they couldn’t find it. Since then, he’s been watching it from afar.

According to Fox 4, John Lewis, 46, had landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in January and when he went to rent a car, he realized he didn’t have his wallet. After contacting American Airlines, they said that they could not locate the carrier of the lost card.

They didn’t realize that he had an Apple Airtag in his wallet, so he could track it as it traveled to multiple locations. That small device is used along with an app to track various items, and he saw that it was in 35 different cities since it was on the plane.

After repeatedly calling American Airlines, he was told they didn’t find the wallet after cleaning the plane. That got him wondering how thorough they must have been while cleaning it if his wallet is still there.

He told them that he wanted them to help him out. He was a platinum member and asked them to step up their game.

He did acknowledge on Twitter that it is his fault the wallet got lost, but he had to connect with another flight, so he got distracted.

He followed up a few days later saying that they found the Airtag but not his wallet. That makes him feel like one of the crewmembers stole it and left the Airtag behind. It got him even more suspicious when they said they found the Airtag buried under the seat, which would’ve been too small for his wallet.

Eventually, a charge came through on one of his credit cards. He said: “It was confirmed that a person cleaning [the plane] took the wallet and left the AirTag on the plane because Sunday one of my credit cards was used in Dallas which is where I got off of the plane.”

Since they found the tag, American Airlines has not contacted him again. He is contacting his credit cards at this time to cancel them because his wallet was not recovered.
