Alayna Ryan (who goes by @alaynaryan1979 on the platform) is here to share her method. She takes a banana peel and rubs it all over her face, claiming that it provides the same benefits as an actual Botox treatment.

The video is hard to fathom but it has received millions of views since it was posted and viewers are swearing by the results.

“OK really gross but it works!” Ryan says in the clip. “This is what I’ve been doing for years and it’s disgusting, but it’s natural Botox. The inside of a banana peel, no wrinkles!!”

Another user followed up on Ryan’s video and came up with another revelation. If the banana is especially beat up and ugly, it will provide even better results. Viewers who want the best results should leave the peel remnants on their faces for at least 15 minutes.

After the peel has been lifted, you are supposed to wash your face with cold water. From there, it is time to moisturize.

While the trend certainly seems fun and interesting, experts aren’t so sure about its efficacy.

According to USA Today, practicing dermotoligst Dr. Samer Jaber said, “There is no science that rubbing banana peels on your skin can benefit your skin. That being said, bananas contain antioxidants and rubbing bananas are unlikely to cause any harm to your skin.”

Dr. Caroline Robinson, however, noted that there are “no studies surrounding the use of banana peels as a skin treatment,” so perhaps they do have benefits that are just not yet known about.
