Let’s face it. No matter how prepared or well qualified you may think that you are, a job interview can be quite nerve wracking. If you would like to get ahead of things a bit, this ex-HR representative is here to tell you more about how to do so.

Miles (who goes @milesmadeit on TikTok) is sharing the goods and we are beyond happy to pass this one along to any nervous readers.

Miles begins the clip by explaining that we should all take a job in human resources at some point in time. His rationale is very simple here and we fully understand where he is coming from on this one. “I don’t care if it’s an internship, full-time job, whatever,” he said. “You need to learn how the system works from the inside.”

With that being said, he is also going to explain the process of going through a job interview to viewers at home. He says that the question is simple but it will help you to understand a great deal when it comes time to learn more. “You need to say, ‘With respect to your time-to-hire metrics and my competing opportunities, could you be so kind as to share the hiring timeline for the role,’” he says.

This is a great question to ask because you are able to find out more without appearing to be too thirsty about things. “They won’t mind sharing IF they have a timeline,” he elaborated in his caption. Many recruiters have time-sensitive goals and the question is asked by the interviewee to determine whether this role is a major priority or not.

Miles does issue one major warning: “waiting for the right person” is not something that you should be trusting under any circumstances. This is something that companies say when they are not going to be making any hiring decisions anytime soon. The right person could come along next week or they could come along next year, for all you know.

His tips are getting support from fellow recruiters, in case you are curious. “Recruiter here. He is on point!” one user says. “Even if you aren’t interviewing elsewhere, say so anyways. They move MUCH faster then.”

“I just had someone ask me the timeline question. I’ve been in HR for almost a decade!” said another HR employee.
