Woman Shares What It’s Like Getting Groceries In Rural Alaska
Alaska is one of the more mysterious locations that the United States has to offer. You could tell us anything about it and we would probably believe it.
Now, a TikTok user who resides in rural Alaska is here to explain their day-to-day to us. We are having a tough time wrapping our minds around what she has shared here, so we will let her explain.

Salina Alsworth, 25, lives in a town called Port Alsworth. This location is so tiny, there are only 200 residents to speak of.
It is one of the more remote locations that the state has to offer, which leads to a number of challenges. She needs an air taxi in order to receive her mail and the closest grocery store to her residence is 160 miles away.

In order to handle her shopping, she needs to take a flight. Salina does not mind her living situation, though. She has over 340,000 TikTok followers and she regularly shows them what life is like in southwest Alaska.
Instead of shopping on a weekly basis like most of us, she takes on a much bigger shop every three to four months.

There are also major challenges that most of us would never have to consider. For example, something as simple as obtaining fresh produce is far more difficult. “If the weather is bad it might be up to a week before the fresh items I purchase can be flown home,” she shared with Insider. The costs of many of her groceries are also higher because she has to have them flown in.
A smaller carton of raspberries may cost up to $5 if it is being flown to her. We thought that we had it bad when it came to inflation but this is nothing compared to what she has to deal with. Salina seems to take it all in stride, however.

“Because of this, I often ask myself if I should buy ripe bananas or green ones that might be ripe by the time I get to use them, but I usually just get a little bit of each,” she went on to say.
