Fans of Stranger Things, it is now time to get excited again. After a really long hiatus – since July 2019 – we can expect to see a return of the show to Netflix!

Of course, we can blame the pandemic for why it took so long for season 4 to come out, but our 3-year wait will be over this coming May! As of May 27, 2022, the first half of the Netflix show will be debuting, with the second-half following July 1, 2022.

There will be a lot to cover too, as when we left off in the third season, Hopper is somewhere mysterious, Eleven appears to be powerless, and the Byers had just moved away from town. Given how much ground there is to cover in terms of answering questions, this season will be a pretty big one! In fact, it’s such a long season that it will be divided up into two halves!

As the showrunner, Ross Duffer, expressed on the podcast Present Company With Krista Smith, “I think they’ll be happy when they see it.”

However, as excited as we are by Duffer’s comment about the final product, there aren’t actually any more episodes than there were in previous seasons. In fact, season 4 will consist of nine episodes – the same number of episodes as there were back in season 2.

We already have the titles of the episodes for season 4. They are as follows:

Episode 1: “The Hellfire Club”
Episode 2: “Vecna’s Curse”
Episode 3: “The Monster and the Superhero”
Episode 4: “Dear Billy”
Episode 5: “The Nina Project”
Episode 6: “The Dive”
Episode 7: “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab”
Episode 8: “Papa”
Episode 9: “The Piggyback”

However, what makes season 4 so lengthy is the time of the episodes. Rather than the usual hour-long episode length that the show has done in the past, these episodes will be longer. Essentially, we can expect more around the 80-minute mark per episode.

The reason for more length per episode? According to MovieWeb, Duffer said the protagonists of the show aren’t really kids anymore, therefore the show and the tone gets to mature with them. It’s going more for horror.

As Duffer explained, “When we pitched it to Netflix all those years ago, we pitched it as the kids are … The Goonies in E.T. That’s their storyline. And the adults are in Jaws and Close Encounters and then the teens are in Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. But, this year, we don’t have the kids. We can’t do The Goonies anymore. And so, suddenly, we’re leaning much harder into that horror movie territory that we love. It was fun to make that change.”
