Teacher Explains Why He Rounds Up High ‘B’ Grades To An ‘A’
This math teacher is winning lots of praise on TikTok, as they provide the rest of the world with a closer glimpse into their grading process.
These videos are a wonderful way to find out more about why teachers give the grades that they do. The teacher in this video is explaining why he loves to round up grades for his students and it is one of the more heartwarming clips that you are going to see.

Howie Hua (also known as @howie_hua on TikTok) teaches math to college kids. He is regularly sharing interesting facts about his area of expertise on the platform and we love him for that.
The recent clip where he explains the philosophy behind his grading process has gotten a lot of love. Just wait until you check out his explanation!
If one of his students ends up with an 89.9% grade, he might round it up to an A for them. The reasoning that he is giving for this philosophy is rather sound, too.

“I am not a perfect grader, and I will never be a perfect grader,” he explains. “And in my opinion, saying that an 89.9% says that I’m extremely accurate and precise in grading every single assignment with zero percent error.”
Grade weighting is at the center of his other philosophy. Most professors will set their own weights for various aspects of the grading process. This is something that Howie does not believe in because he does not view himself as an infallible grader.

Hua even provided a helpful example that showed parents how easily weighting could change a child’s grades once and for all.
“I think we focus way too much on the final percentage,” he shared. “We forget that grades are a reflection of what [the students] know,” he concluded. The comments were chock full of praise for what he had to say on the matter and we agree wholeheartedly.
