When tornadoes hit the state of Kentucky, residents were left to scramble to save their most prized possessions before evacuating. This is the story of one such family, who thought that one of their most sentimental possessions was lost to the tornado.

Fortunately for them, it was found. A woman in New Albany, Indiana recently went outside and walked into one of the most amazing finds that we have ever seen.

The photo that she came across had traveled all the way from Dawson Springs, Kentucky. This town is located roughly 150 miles away, making the find even more incredible. When Katie Posten walked outside this past Saturday, she never could have expected to see this photo. At first, she assumed that someone had stuck a note or a receipt of some kind to her car’s windshield.

Little did she know what she would find next! The photo, which was clearly a few decades old, depicted a woman in a striped sundress and headscarf who has holding a little boy in her lap. Once the photo was flipped over, she found a note on the back that was written in cursive. “Gertie Swatzell & J.D. Swatzell 1942,” the photo reads.

Katie took the photo back inside immediately. From there, she took to Twitter and Facebook. She planned on harnessing the awesome power of social media to find this family and get this picture back to its rightful owners.

After Katie posted the photo, it was shared hundreds of times and someone happened to know a relative of the people in the picture. They tagged him, and Cole Swatzell quickly commented that the photo was his dad’s grandparents from Dawson Springs, Kentucky.

Katie updated her post, saying that she’d found the family of the photo and their home had been hit by a tornado. She’s working with one of the family members to safely return the photograph.
