Ex-Walmart Employee Explains The Annoying ‘Call for Help’ Message At Self-Checkout
There are two types of people who visit Walmart. There are those who insist on going through an aisle and having a person check them out and there are those who will simply go to the self-checkout.
If you do go to the self-checkout, you already realize that there are some frustrations that go along with it. From time to time, lights will flash and you will have to get assistance, whether you want it or not.

There is also something else that happens at Walmart frequently, and that is for a message to appear on the screen that asks you to “call for help.” When you see that message, you know that your time at the checkout will be delayed but there is no way around it.
Thanks to a TikTok user named Obey Goddess, we now have a clear idea of why that message appears on the screen. She is an ex-Walmart employee and she has something to say on the subject.
Believe it or not, this message is something that may differ from one state to another. It has to do with age-restricted products, including tobacco and alcohol but there may be other products that are included in the mix.

It is convenient to go through the self-checkout but if you have any of those age-restricted products, then you will get the message. It is to alert store employees to come and check your ID to make sure that you are old enough to purchase them.
This isn’t something that is taken lightly. There are cameras watching at all times and managers making sure that employees are checking IDs when requested. If they don’t check them or are caught doing something wrong, they can get in some serious trouble.
There is also another reason why this message may appear, and that is if you’re trying to buy an item that has an active recall on it. We can be thankful that is the case because it could be dangerous to use some of those items.

When we get those messages, and the employee comes over, they have two different options. After verifying our age, they can either enter the number on the screen or they can scan their badge. It’s up to them but is faster if they just scan their badge.
