Since making my Homemade Hot Honey recipe, I’ve been looking for different opportunities to test it out. One of the best recipes that I’ve used hot honey for is this tasty marinade that also utilizes coca-cola and other pantry favorites. Hot honey is a tremendous melding of heat and sweet flavors, and a great way to introduce warmth and gentle spiciness into a variety of dishes. It pairs brilliantly with the soda because coke’s acidity helps tenderize the meat while adding a sweet liquid flavor base to beef, pork, or chicken.

A hot honey and coca-cola chicken marinade is simple and effective. It creates a sweet, rich sauce with an impactful flavor bolstered by numerous everyday items, including soy sauce, garlic, and cumin. While initially sugary, the soy sauce, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce cut through the sweetness to add more refinement and a umami savory aspect that soaks into the meat while keeping it juicy.

The warm, inviting marinade can handle as much as 6-8 chicken filets easily, and is suitable for those who prefer to avoid the punch of chili marinades while still enjoying the warmer infusion. And if you prefer to ratchet up the heat, the addition of cayenne pepper or hot chili powder is enough to give it strength without overpowering the other elements of the marinade.

You can use this marinade in a variety of settings. It is perfect for the grill or skillet, as char creates a lovely taste and visual element to white meat in particular. However, I also like to cook my chicken pieces in the pan to incorporate more of the marinade along with the chicken, which reduces and gets soaked up while the bird cooks. While it’s not the type of sauce where you set some aside for topping salads, the hot honey cola marinade does create a good match for a simple table salad and baked potato combination, mashed potatoes or chips.

Hot honey and coca-cola marinade is now on my regular list of sauces. Being able to look in the pantry, grab a few items, mix and marinade is a time-saving method of creating delicious flavors you will want to come back to!
